I have the Image file, extracted them onto my Hard Drive. Now how do I upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. Where is the serial number or activation code?
    • This commment is unpublished.
      Ramsey · 5 months ago
You don't need to enter a key. And you should do a fresh installation and not an upgrade.

That mean I have to format my SSD. I do not want to format my drive that would mean tons of reloading and all my files. Granted I back them up. Is there a way to do without reformat. Thank You

You don't have to do it but that's the proper way.

If you have enough space in your disk, it will do a fresh install without formatting. But you might end up installing every single app, again. If they show you the option to upgrade, then its fine. After upgrade, delete Windows.old and you will get your space back. Oh, and, don't boot it from your hard disk. Make a bootable pendrive and do it using that. In that case, you will be able to skip when they ask for key.

A pendrive is just an Americanized word for USB flash drive/USB flash disk/thumb drive, etc.
What he meant is for you to boot the Windows 10 installer from your USB flash drive. If you boot directly from your main hard drive to install Windows, it might conflict when installing system files & your Windows might not boot up properly. You should do a fresh install if you are upgrading from a previous Windows version but if you are upgrading from Windows 10, then you should use the Windows Update instead. You will get a more recent updates & upgrades there.

Burn the Windows 10 ISO on a DVD by using a Burn program like CDBurnerXP or use Rufus to put the ISO on a USB Flash Drive.
But it is always recommended to BACKUP your files on a separate Drive.

I guess I am a novice. I do not know did not know I can make a bootable USB drive. However all I want to do is upgrade from Win 10 Home to Win 10 Pro. Here is what exactly what I am trying to do. Please advise.

Do what i wort. And then at Windows 10 installation stage you will get an option if you want to upgrade. But BACKUP your files on a separate Drive to be safe.

Thank You Ramsey. So please allow me to clarify. I run the Setup.exe from the Win 10 image I extracted. Somewhere along I should get an option to upgrade. I use the upgrade option. The biggest question is where do I find the key (16 digit) code for I thought I have to use a 16 digit key to upgrade. If it ask me for this code then what do I type in?
What happens if this fails, will my computer be not able to boot up (MOST IMPORTANT)?

Why would you place all your files in your primary drive? If your OS is screwed, then you would need another working computer to extract those files. And if your drive is screwed, then so would your files, even more so, when you put your files on your main SSD which will shorten the lifespan of your SSD when you copy & move a lot of files around. Your SSD should be used best containing OS & application software. Move your files to secondary mechanical HDD.

    Hello Ramsey,
I burned the iso twice on DVD+R as I always do with your software and the same DVD burner, however, Windows does not read or shows the DVD contents.... Any clue please?
    Thank you

Try to use the free tools like ImgBurn and CDBurnerXP.
And also enable the option in your Burn program to check for error after the Disc burning.
